Algae control
Algae
control - how to manage algae in your aquarium
There
are several types of algae that grow in aquariums by using photosynthesis.
Algae has always been an issue for aquarium enthusiasts, but fortunately
there are ways to get around this pestilence. Basically, what makes
algae grow is what makes your plants grow as well : Light! This
means that you should not be using excessive lighting in your aquarium.
Moderate use of light in your aquarium to what is needed. Different
types of tank have different lighting requirements. Also remember
to keep your tank away from direct sunlight. Further steps to minimize
algae include the use of snails or algar eating fish to eat certain
types of algae. Be careful with snails though, they reproduce rather
rapidly and may damage plant life in your tank.
Also,
depending on the type of aquarium you have, use something to scrape
or scrub off algae. For a glass tank you can use a razor blade,
for an acrylic tank you should use a gentle scrubbing pad. Your
tank should be cleaned regularly to prevent algae growth in your
tank to get out of control.
Limit
algae nutrients. Algea thrives on leftover fish food, so be careful
not to feed your fish more than is required, this will only help
algae to grow.
