Aquarium chiller
Things
to consider when choosing an aquarium chiller
There are
several factors you need to consider when you are shopping for an aquarium
chiller. Your aquarium will need to be adequately chilled to ensure a
healthy environment for your aquatic friends. One important thing is the
temperature requirements of your fish and other aquarium inhabitants.
You will also need to choose a chiller that is suitable for the specific
space and setup of your tank.
If you are
using devices such as water pumps or electrical ligthing a chiller is
needed to counter the heat generates by these devices. Otherwise the water
temperature may very well rise to levels where there simply isn't sufficient
oxygen for your aquatic companions to survive.
It is important for the overall health of your aquatic friends that the
temperature in your aquarium is kept at a consistent level. A sudden increase
or decrease in water temperature will increase the risk of infection or
disease in your aquarium inhabitants.
There are
several types of aquarium chillers available, each suiting different needs:
Thermoelectric
chillers, inline chillers or drop in chillers. Thermoelectric chillers
are primarily used in somewhat small aquariums with a slow waterflow.
In Line Chillers requires plumbing and are used with larger aquariums.
An alternative is a drop in chiller that is easily mounted and require
little space since it is installed directly in a wet/dry filter.
