Canine
Digestive System
Your
dog's digestive system is a complex arrangement. It takes in the
food he eats, grinds it up into small pieces, and turns it into
nutrients (carbohydrates into simple sugars, fats into fatty acids,
and proteins into amino acids) that are absorbed by your dog's body
and used to keep him healthy and strong. This entire process takes
between 7 and 10 hours to complete in a healthy dog.
Sometimes
though, things don't run along quite as they should and his digestive
system goes awry. Perhaps your dog is bloated, constipated, or throwing
up. If your pet experiences any digestive disorders, it is important
to call your veterinarian and discuss the situation. Depending on
the seriousness of the problem and the demeanor of your pet, a trip
to you pets doctor and an examination may be recommended.
