Canine distemper precautions
Further Precautions
After an animal has been treated for, or is recovering from, distemper, he continues to spread the virus for several weeks (even after symptoms disappear). It’s also remotely possible for humans to catch the virus - but anyone who has been immunized against measles is also protected against distemper.
If your dog becomes infected or dies from distemper, you should wait at least a month before bringing any new pets into your home. Although the virus that causes distemper doesn’t last very long outside an animal’s body, you may wish to disinfect anything your dog has touched with a 1:30 bleach water solution.
