Canine distemper vaccine
Types of Canine Distemper Vaccines
There are several different types of vaccines available. Each has its pros and cons, so it’s a good idea to discuss your options with your veterinarian. The two most common vaccines are:
Canine tissue culture -adapted vaccines
Chick embryo - adapted vaccines.
Canine tissue culture-adapted vaccines are nearly 100% effective. In some rare instances, however, they cause swelling of the brain a few weeks after vaccination. If your dog has a compromised immune system, most experts agree he should not receive this type of vaccine.
Chick embryo adapted-vaccines are safer, but are only about 80% effective.
