Put an end to dog dandruff

dog dandruff
If you dog
has dry and flaky skin dandruff often becomes a problem. The difference
between dandruff in dogs and dandruff in humans is the fact that it doesn't
show up as much as it does on people.
Veterinarians
refer to dry skin in canines as dry seborrhea. Itching of the skin is
just as unpleasant to a dog as it is to humans - and it is practically
impossible to teach a dog to stop itching when it gets really bad. The
dry skinned canine will most often scratch himself raw leaving an open
door for infections.
Causes
of dry, flaky skin and dandruff in dogs:
- Natural
condition of your dog
- Frequent
bathing
- Allergies
- Parasites
(such as walking dandruff)
- Infections
- Improper
diet (lack of fatty acids)
Consult
your veterinarian
If your dog
is losing fur, shedding more, scratching a lot, has a rash you should
consult your veterinarian. Also, if it is evident that your pet
has flaky or greasy skin, and dandruff you should see your veterinarian.
Other signs you should look out for are the development of a rash,
skin sores, scales, hives, or bald patches. Unusual weight gain
or lethargy are also warning signs. Does your pet prefer the indoors
during winter? Is he having trouble breating? Does he have loose
skin? A sunburn? Does the color of his skin appear to change or
are there purple / red discolorations of the skin? Does he have
swelling beneath the skin? A sore that does not seem to heal or
yellow skin in the lip, abdomen or rectal area? If any of the above
signs are present you should consult your veterinarian. Depending
on the severity of the your veterinarian has a number of options
that will put an end to the problem
