Dog hats are functional and fashionable. On hot days your dog's head is shaded from the hot sun and protected from glare and harsh rays. A hat for your dog will also protect your dog's nose and eyes from the sunlight, and can be soaked in cool water to keep your dog cooler on long walks in the summer. A dog hat can also ensure that his head is kept warm on cold winter days and nights.

When putting a hat on your dog, make it a positive experience. If your pet loves to go for a ride, put his hat on. If you go walking with him, put the hat on. Always use praise. This is important not only for wearing the hat, but to reinforce bonding and trust between you and your dog.

Hats vary from regular caps to caps with visors, bucket, baseball, beach, golf, tam or beret, leather biker, sailor, cowboy, rancher, race car fans, railroad style, Mexican sombrero, camouflage, rain slicker, custom designed, and embroidered with breed name.

Most are machine washable; come in a variety of sizes from petite to xxlarge; with an adjustable elastic or Velcro chin strap; some have earholes, and styles to fit most breeds. Sizing and fit generally is figured by the weight of your dog. Sizes range from extra small to extra large.

How about buying your pooch a fashion hat! For the diva dog:
Velvet hats with feathers; silk and velvet plush hats with rhinestones and satin ribbons; or a fashion hat and stole ensemble that's made out of faux fur lined in satin with a rhinestone clasp for the stole. These are for special occasions and generally aren't machine washable.

Dog hats are made out of many fabrics, with patterns, colors and designs sure to please any dog. Express your personality and your dog's personality and buy matching hats!
Fitting for a hat will depend on the head size of the breed.

In addition to hats and caps, why not finish off the outfit with a bandanna and sunglasses for your pooch. Bandannas can be tied around your dog's neck, and some are made with elastic and a snap for closure. Sunglasses come in a variety of different shapes varying from hearts to stars.
