Dog Obedience Training
Basic
dog obedience training
In
order to train your dog successfully communication is essential.
And you can not communicate effectively with your dog unless he
perceives you as the leader of the pack.
Obedience
training should never in any way rely on physical punishment.
In
any type of dog training you need to:
Be
Firm (verbally)
Be
Consistent - a dog needs to know that a certain type of behavior
causes a certain effect. Every time. Your dog won't learn if you
discipline him when exhibiting a certain type of behavior one time,
but don't another time.
Have
proper timing - again, dogs are very immediate creatures. They don't
rely on logic, so if you punish you're a while after he has misbehaved,
he will NOT understand what he is being punished for. It will only
help to confuse your dog because he thinks he is being punished
for whatever he is doing when he receives punishment.
Give
your dog plenty of praise and have fun! Training is not a chore,
neither for you or your dog.
Remember,
dogs are creatures of instinct, not logic.
