The female dog comes into heat with a bloody vaginal discharge every 8 months or so. Often this has an offensive odor.

A pregnant female dog close to delivery may have a vaginal discharge that has a very weak odor which is normal. However, if this discharge has any significant odor then she might have a uterine infection. This is a serious problem that requires the assistance of a veterinarian.
