Illuminated (lighted) dog collars are designed to make your dog more visible in the dark. They do more than just reflect light, they generate their own. A bright colored glow emanates from the collar. Most have the ability to protect your dog in three ways: in off mode the bright surface is highly reflective, or you can turn the light on to glow a continuous steady bright color, or you can set it to pulsating on off rapid flash. All colors of the rainbow are available and they operate with a watch type or regular batteries.

Many brands of lighted collars are lightweight, water and weather resistant, shock resistant and depending on the type capable of operating up to 10,000 hours of hours. On some brands the light can be seen up to a mile away. Distances the light can be seen vary according to brand and some can be seen up to a mile away.

Note: on long haired dogs the hair can obstruct the collar and lights.
